Emotional Intelligence

Emotions are very powerful energy with in person. Using that energy in a way that one could take optimum advantages is called – Emotional Intelligence.

Emotions are of three types one is Positive Emotions, second is Negative Emotions and third is Neutral Emotions.

Positive emotions are that capability of a person by birth, or developed later on, that turns anything into a positive way. Just by saying be positive does not mean anything. Being positing needs understanding and knowledge, knowledge about a person’s behavioral patterns that why do people act or react in a certain way and how to reframe their mental models ?

Negative emotions, these emotions come out of poor understandings, when things are unclear and out of understanding. Negative emotions persist when one does not come out of his mental box. These are due to poor insight and understanding.

Neutral emotions: these come when one is unwilling to contribute anything. One becomes aloof and unconcerned. This happens very intentionally and there may be several factors behind it like lack of recognition and respect etc.

Components of Emotional Intelligence

Mayers, Dipaolo and Salovey (1990) suggested five components of emotional intelligence.

1. Knowing one’s emotions, 2. Managing emotions, 3. Motivating oneself, 4. Recognizing emotions in others and, 5.handling relationship

Goleman (1995) also gave five components

1. Self-awareness, 2. Self regulation, 3. Motivation, 4. Empathy and, 5.social skills

Emotional Intelligence and Leaders:

Good leaders are masters of manipulating emotions for taking maximum advantages. Quality of scanning others emotions leads to wonderful results, this way one can better understand other person or group and can win the trust easily.
