Evaluation of Training Program

Evaluation of training is as important as the training itself. Better job performance certifies that training has been beneficial. But sometimes it may also happen despite completing the training course very well, a trainee is not performing, in that case training program quality need to be checked again. A well training program should boost up the trainees morale, and needs to be supplemented by motivation, encouragement and belonging.

Benefits of training evaluation:
- Support to organization mission.
- Individual as well group achievement.
- Competencies check
- Job behavior check
- Training programs quality check

Donald L. Kirkpatrick (1976), proposed four level of Criteria.

1.Reaction:
This is about obtaining feedback from trainees about the quality of training, whatever important or unimportant trainees have perceived regarding the content, pace, methodology, tutorial support, learning material and facilities during the training program. How far the training was lacking and how far it was good. This reaction can be taken by Questionnaires, Interviews and Observation.

2.Learning:
Whatever knowledge, skills and attitudes  a trainee learned are being checked by variety of methods like objective tests, simulation and interviews.

3.Job Behavior:
Best training is that which changes the job behaviour, brings qualitative and quantitative changes in job behaviour, more production with lesser faults. And shows what kind of behavior is needed for doing a job with satisfactory standards. The job behaviour can be evaluated by standard of performance, competencies, output produced, knowlede about rules, facts and procedures. Way of doing like systematic/unsystematic and organised/disorganised etc.

4.Results:
The overall result that an organization is seeking form a trainee to get it’s strategic plan accomplished. How much training program is contributing to organisation.
