Meaning of Job Description

Job Description  describes all the things and conditions which comes within a particular job. Like duties, responsibilities, tasks, job conditions and environment, machines and equipments used etc.

The main characteristics of Job descriptions are:

• Job designation: Title of the job,  Job location, Reporting person and job grade etc.

• Summary of the job

• Duties and responsibilities

• Relations to other jobs

• Technology used in job

• Working conditions

Note: some organization does not mix job specification with job description, job description tells about the job and job specification tells about the requisite qualification, skills and experience needed to do a job.
