Living Enlightenment – Paramhamsa Nithyananda Ji (PNJ for short here): around the age of 10, PNJ used to go and see, great master Annamalae swami, a great enlighten being; direct disciple of Bhagwan Raman Maharishi. He was the person, who used to give bath to bhagwan; even whenever Bhagwan did take bath, he was the person who used to touch bhawan body and made bhagwan bath– such a close disciple! One day when he was giving bath, PNJ thought-I’m touching the body just a normal body; when you are too intimate with God, sometimes it is difficulty, and you may take it granted. PNJ was touching the body …and thinking what it is? Everybody is worshipping…everybody is feeling: he is God! He is God! He is Bhagwan.PNJ thought he is just touching a normal body; suddenly something happened…Bhagwan touched back(maybe Bhagwan had read the mind)…and PNJ went into Samadhi…normal way of life was changed. Bhagwan said: “Just the one experience… the one experience – changes the whole life”.

PNJ, around the age of 10 yrs used to go to listen discourses.PNJ was listening that we are not this body, and we are beyond suffering and pain and all those things. PNJ was not able to understand at the age of 10…that, we are beyond and suffering…If his mother beats him he had pain, if his teacher shout at him…he had suffering…how can he say? That we are beyond pain and suffering? PNJ took a knife and cut the thigh to see whether there is a pain or not. When Krishna said,”Atma cannot be cut by sword, burn by fire and can’t be destroyed by anything; Arjuna tested this philosophy by killing others, but PNJ unfortunately tested on himself (context was different)… he had pain and taken to hospital and got thirteen stitches. PNJ was told to find out the source of pain…where is the source of pain? At that time of 10 yrs of age PNJ was not convinced about –”to find out the source of pain” He asked that person, you had better told me before this cut. He said to PNJ: Don’t bother about this pain! “Your courage to experiment with truth will liberate you”. That is enough take care, don’t bother! That was the big inspiration for PNJ.

PNJ used to play…from where is the pain coming? Where is the source of pain? Where…”I”… exist? Whenever PNJ get time, he used to play with this technique casually to find out the source of self. He also didn’t know the beginning, end or result of this technique. But whatever he was told…PNJ used to practice it casually. At that time of very young age…PNJ didn’t have any idea…he used to think: perhaps at the end of meditation- God will appear, and will tell him there will be no pain. Whatever PNJ was told, he used to do that with the belief that he may not have any pain or suffering in future. PNJ didn’t have any clear idea or expectation –exactly what will happen, what PNJ was only told and he started playing with that technique casually.

In fool-moon day around 4.30 P.M to 6.30 P.M, evening; PNJ was sitting on Rock, at Arunachal Hill: sitting casually and trying to find out the source, that from where – the “I” is raising? The feeling of “I” is happening? It was a bit long time sitting there, trying to find out the source in deep way – suddenly something happened! Like PNJ is being pulled inside…sitting over there with closed eyes. PNJ saw clearly “something opened inside”, the moment “something opened inside” PNJ was able to see whole 360 degree; with closed eyes, whatever was happening in all directions: front, back, left, right, up and bottom. Not only PNJ was able to see, he was able to feel clearly: how much alive inside – the skin. With the same intensity as PNJ was feeling himself, He was also feeling:”he is alive everywhere, where ever he is able to see”. PNJ was able to see, whole things that were around him: the plants, rocks, trees …everything, and he was able to feel; that he is alive in everything. Same way everyone does feel alive inside; PNJ felt alive with whole cosmos, with the whole existence. Before this experience “PNJ was body” and after this experience “PNJ was body also”. It was a deep experience, that words or imagination can’t make. It was a strong conscious experience.

As we know, we’re inside our skin; anything we’ll listen as long as it does not disturb us. If something disturbs to our life, naturally we all know how to protect ourselves –because we’re alive inside. It is our conscious experience. People may teach us that “we’re not the body” we listen! Do we allow them to work upon us? Because our conscious experience is our body; isn’t it? In PNJ case, the whole existence was his conscious experience. And after that experience PNJ used to live according that, and people feel surprised (as they do normally) that why PNJ live such a strong  intense life in that age? It was difficult, unimaginable! It was unimaginable for those, and still it is; who differs by conscious experience. It was simple to PNJ because feeling whole cosmos is him, became his conscious experience.

Now, it was late night (same day), PNJ came down from the rock and settled himself – the experience and its impact was so strong – PNJ thought: some Ghost has possesses him, he got frightened! (…and anybody can be, when few hours change your whole life) There was deep joy inside PNJ, but he didn’t know what has happened! First time, something new! He started thinking again, some Ghost has possessed him and went to Mataji’s(Aunty) home, and told her: what has happened. She just laughed and told PNJ that he is not possessed by Ghost but possessed by God. She gave PNJ courage to live that experience, to accept it. For three days PNJ was not able to eat anything, it was so intense ecstasy (first time!); PNJ used to feel: food is alive and he is also alive, and he is sitting inside the food. What is there to put something into something? And everything is alive! So how will you put something into something – you’ll not put your finger into your mouth? And chew! J …Such a solid experience. It took three days, she used to put something into PNJ mouth and force him to eat…but food used to come out. She took care and motivates PNJ that he is possessed by God, but he was afraid and, he didn’t go to that rock again for next six months.

After few days, PNJ took a friend to a temple and, told him that he’ll tell him some important things and, friend agreed! He was sitting next to PNJ; PNJ told friend that since that day something happened to him on hill and, now he is able see 360 degree. First friend did not believe, and then PNJ told friend whatever was behind, without turning his head – this was a great shock to friend. Moreover, that friend took a coin, went behind PNJ, changed head and tails many times, and then asked PNJ; PNJ told exactly the answer whatever friend was doing behind head, and that completely shook the friend. PNJ told friend to go to rock and sit to get the same visionJ. Still PNJ was not sure, what he has gained! Whatever PNJ knew is that, he can see everything; it was joyful, kind of ‘bliss-fever’ to PNJ. PNJ persistently insisted to friend to sit on rock, and the friend was terrified J …he started escaping; PNJ caught him, while holding him, PNJ felt body may be two, but he is alive within two bodies. He felt like he is having two bodies, and the friend was totally frightened! Friend escaped by washroom excuse – let me go I’ll come back – but didn’t returnJ.

The idea about self (PNJ), life and God; everything was changed. Why this spiritual experience happened to PNJ? (Why it does not occur to everybody?) The important reason PNJ states that his inner space was ripe, it was ready for this small technique to just awaken the consciousness. Constantly PNJ used to be in high frequencies feeling connected with his master…without even his awareness (efforts were so autonomous & deep rooted).”Who impresses you, inspires you…that person become the hero of your inner space” in young age specially. And PNJ was much impressed from his masters in every situation, PNJ used to calculate (internally), how his master would behave at this moment; let me behave in the same way. For example: if PNJ had some fear, he would think how Annamalae Swami (his master) would face this fear, “he won’t bother!”,”he is an enlightened”, let me also be like that. The inner space of PNJ was so inspired and impressed by great masters, in every step of PNJ life, he’d remember and think how his master had behaved in this situation. And this process developed too deep rooted in PNJ, and his inner space was pure also (younger age), no other heroes apart from his masters could exists.

PNJ used to walk around a hill, it was around the time PNJ had first spiritual experience. It was heavy rain, thunders and heavy lightening…immediately PNJ thought how Annamalae Swami (his master) would behave?.”He won’t bother”, “Let me also do the same way”. PNJ was walking through the traditional crematorium (Walking path around hill was through crematorium). Suddenly he saw, a Dog is biting and eating something when PNJ went near, Dog tried to bark PNJ out. First thing when fear came, PNJ just thought how Annamalae Swami would behave, “he won’t bother”.  PNJ started moving…when he started moving…the Dog got frightened and ran away. When he went near he saw a dead body not buried completely came out due to rain and, lying on the road. Just Imagine: 12-13 years old boy, mid-night, dead-body without head, head was in the Dog’s mouth. The moment fear started, the awareness was so intense; PNJ thought how Annamalae Swami would behave now? (He’d just walk around and go, that’s all! He even wouldn’t turn back and see.). The momentarily fear was gone. Intensely the whole consciousness, inner-space, was ready. That was the reason – a small punch, a small inspiration leads to PNJ into spiritual experience. This is what PNJ calls “living enlightenment”: when you live enlighten masters’ body language, you live enlightenment.

Whenever any thought used to come to PNJ, he used to think: how would his master behave? Anything whether it was related to clothes, food or anything. If PNJ felt little lazy to meditate or to walk, then PNJ used to think: how Annamalae Swami would behave now; how would he handle this situation? Naturally he will not bother about this laziness. Let’s do it, that’s all! Masters became the scale and the inner-space constantly from morning till night became the life’s center of masters.

Once PNJ asked Swami Ji…that he saw Arunacheleshwara in dream, do you see Arunacheleshwara also in your dream? Swami Ji said “no I don’t have any dream”. If you don’t have dream, PNJ thought:”how can I have dreams?” No dream! That night when dreams started appearing to PNJ, inside the dream PNJ was saying…No! If Annamalae Swami does not have dream, how can I have? Dream disappeared! The inner space was so thorough, so innocent, so straight and so direct …it just happened.

The biggest problem for a seeker is: “I know it is right, but I am struggling” – you are dead. Over! – You will neither achieve this nor achieve that…Over! Nothing can be done by you…then what’ll you do? “You’ll be stuck with this idea for Janmas(births)”, this is what we call: Karan Sharira (body that gives reason). Understand: “I know what Swami Ji is talking is right, but I’m not able to – means WHAT??  Caught in Karan Sharira (body that gives reasons), you’ll never get out of this layer–unless you take strong step and put your foot down. Be very clear: If you are caught in Karan Sharira (body that gives reason) – nobody can save you. Remember: “Nobody can save you!” THIS IS MESSAGE OF PARAMHAMSA NITHYANANDA – DON’T STICK IN THIS LAYER. Anywhere you are stuck –it’s OK. But don’t stick in this layer. That is what PNJ call:”evil”. Ravana knew this, that Sita is his daughter…but he said: he has no control. Ravana is nothing but –schizophrenia; that’s why ten faces. One part of Ravana was devoted to Shiva and, one part of Ravana was filled with lust, one part of him: arrogance and violence. If you are stick in this concept: “I know what Swami ji talking is right, but what I can’t do “– nothing can be done! Even you worship Shiva, Shiva can’t save you. Ravana was great Shiv Devotee. Understand! Shiva was not able to save him. Because Schizophrenic devotion is not devotion, it is “Ravana Devotion”.

If you say:”I know it is right, but I’m not able to… I’m not able to get that…I’m not able to get there. OVER! The reason for PNJ first spiritual experience was: he never had thoughts in his inner space, if any thought came from inside, how Annamalae Swami would respond to this thought? He would not have this, and then forget about this thought. Take this as a message, this is the message for you, understand: in any situation just remember: “how Swami ji would behave?” “How Swami ji would react?” “How Swami ji would face this situation?” SIMPLY YOU’LL SEE, NEW DOORS OPEN. This is what PNJ calls: living enlightenment. Understand, you don’t need anything else; this ‘one’ is enough. Even while sitting, thoughts are coming, just think if Swami Ji were sitting, what would going on inside him- naturally, silence. Then why thoughts are coming? Silent! Over! Nothing else, that’s all!  If your mind says: no, no …I know it’s true…but I can’t do this…It’s too much. Then think if Swami ji mind says like this, how’d he behave? You will finish the mind – that moment. That’s all, nothing else. Just be very clear, carry this one message. And let this message life unto you. The message: living enlightenment. PNJ further explains: this is what, relationship with master, relationship with master is not just doing some puja, putting some flowers or worshipping him once a while…no! Being thoroughly impressed by master; anything comes up: fear, insecurity, greed or anger…anything comes up…just see how would master behave? Simply, they will disappear! A simple understanding: living enlightenment, nothing else is needed. Carry this one message.

Feeling connected with master means: just living master. When you live master, you feel connected to master. Only then, you are expanding. Only then, something is happening in you. Why this does not happen to us…because so many other relationships, your inner-space is occupied by so many other persons, and so many people have inspired you, have impressed you, have given the ideas that they are heroes. The relationship between disciple and disciple will lead to – hell, because blind leading to blind: what’ll happen? Both will fall into the big ditch. Disciple and disciple relationships is the worst thing which can be to disciples. Disciple-disciple relationship is allowed only when somebody enriched other faith towards master. When two unenlightened persons start relating – blind leading to the blind – direct hell. You don’t even travel to the hell, you bring the hell.

Carry this one message: live like a master. For whatever you are qualified, it’ll always gather around you. And it’ll always stay with you; it’ll always be with you. Understand a person who is courageous enough to say: “how master would live?” This is the way; Let me live this way too. If your mind created some other questions: “who knows this is the way, he would behave”, “I think he behaves in a different way”, “no, no, no…he may behave, but what I can do…I’m not that state now, I’ve not reached that stage now, he is enlightened”. Then ask your minds – how Swami Ji would behave for this thought? He’ll just not bother, let me also not bother. Over, that’s all you need to carry! When you are carrying this one truth, you are carrying your master. Carry the master; you’ll give birth to yourself. For anything happens to you, how master would behave in this? How master would respond? How master would be in that? At most what the difficulty can come-death. Just remember how Swami ji would die? He would leave the body beautifully …let me do the same. That’s all. What else is there, nothing else? Anything can come, just remember one thing, how would master live? Do the same thing. Actually the feeling connected to master gives the truth, which make alive and energetic.

Carry this message “how master would behave?” and any problem in the internal world can solve. Just live-enlightenment! And remove all the relationship from the head; you must be having many examples: you learn from the boss, you do the same way; you learn from parents; you learn from many other persons; now decide –learn from the master.

When mother hands you over to the father, you forget what you’ve learned from the mother. When father hands you over to master, you forget what you’ve learned from the father. And when master hands you over to God, you forget what you’ve learned from the master.

It’s your job; remember whatever you learn from master. You’ll be handed over to God, and then there will be nothing to remember. People will remember you.
