Peter Senge (1990), proposed five disciplines:
1. Personal Mastery:
Personal mastery is a life long journey, start from your childhood since you get to understand and doing things. Personal mastery is way of doing the things satisfactorily, accurately and properly with using all the senses and wisdom.
Personal mastery is that in which one excels, with which one’s desire and passions are in alignment, way of doing those things which one really wants.
If you do not want teaching profession or sport profession then how can you get personal mastery in that? As the interest and desires differ person to person, matters of personal mastery also differ, someone can get personal mastery in consulting kind of thing and some can get personal mastery in computer programming. Personal Mastery depends upon “what you want?” , and “what you do to get it realistically?”.
2. Mental Models:
Mental Models are untested impressions and believes stored in our mind for situations, things, people and culture.
Untested Mental Models create dissonance between and among people due to reinforcement of existed untested Mental Models.
The practice of Mental Models lead to wonderful results as existing untested Mental Models come to surface get discussed and checked and better Mental Models are formed.
3.Shared Vision:
Despite all the training and expertise why people do not contribute to an organization their 100% potential ? The answer : Shared Vision is lacking. Visions based on authority are not sustainable. An individual vision should be aligned with the organization’s vision. Socializing, informal gathering is very necessary among people for knowing each other vision and developing vision to get collective achievement.
4.Team Learning:
An individual can not do all the task alone, suppose a man is machine operator, he is linked to all the people like one who maintain/clean machines, one who does quality check, and one who provide certain material for machine. Now team learning is that when individuals help each other for completing a or purpose.
Works happen in a process and schedule and number of people are involved in that until there will be Team Learning people will feel fragmented from each other.
5.Systems Thinking:
A system with in an organization contains different individuals, their feelings, interests and mental models. A decision made by management affects all the employees whether they like it or not, Systems Thinking is that when every aspects of the decisions, situations and people, whatever comes with in a system are being taken care of. So that a realistic and feasible approach could come throughout the organization.
