Bhagavad Gita: Dhyana Yoga, chap.6

Krishna says –

  • One, who is detached from attachments, and does one’s karma; s/he is the real Yogi.
  • Sannyas means to merge with God consciousness; no one can be a Yogi without going beyond the desire to indulge in senses.
  • With the help of one’s own mind, one needs to make progress and, not let oneself go downwards. This mind is both a friend and an enemy to a person.
  • Who wins over mind, for him/her – the mind is the best friend; but who is unable to win over the mind, for him/her, the mind will remain the greatest enemy.
  • If you win over mind, you get the God. Winning over mind, leads to tranquility – and that person has evenness to pleasure & pain, heat & cold, and honor & dishonor.
  • A person is called self-realized and Yogi – when, with own knowledge and experience, that person is self-satisfied. S/he is said to be a spiritual person and master of senses, and to whom a lump of earth, a stone and gold are all alike.
  • When a person sees alike to benefactors, friends, neutrals, mediators, enviers, enemies, relatives, good people, and criminals – s/he is considered more divine.
  • A Yogi needs to connect his/her body, mind, and soul to God; and live in a silent place; with all care do control the mind, and s/he needs to be free from the desires and possessions.
  • For Yoga practice, one should choose a silent and pure place; having seated comfortable, while controlling mind, senses and karma – and fixing the mind on non-duality, one should practice to purify the heart.
  • One, who practices Yoga needs to straight and comfortable: the body, neck and the head, and mildly gaze at the point of the nose. In this way with directed and controlled mind, being free from the fears and desires, one should contemplate on God at heart, and make the God – the goal of life.
  • Hey Arjuna! One, who lives a life in extremes i.e., eats a lot or eats very less, and sleeps a lot or sleeps little; s/he has no chance to become a Yogi.
  • One, who is balanced in eating, sleeping, merry-making and working habits, with Yoga Practice s/he can destroy the sorrow.
  • As, at airless place, the flame of a lamp doesn’t flicker, same way – the Yogi, who controls the mind, always remains steady in soul-consciousness.
  • In the state of Samadhi, mind is completely controlled, and with pure mind one can feel the bliss inside; in this blissful stage with subtle senses, s/he lives in divine happiness. The person, who is like that, never differs from the truth; having felt this divine pleasure, s/he gets everything, and doesn’t lose heart in the hardest problems of life.
  • With belief and will-power, one should practice Yoga (without losing this path). One should reject whatever desires come from the mind, and with the help of mind, one needs to control all the senses.
  • By the help of intellect, and with firm belief – one should be steady in Samadhi, and this way mind should dissolve in the Soul, and shouldn’t think anything else.
  • With uncontrolled mind, self-realization is impossible, but who has controlled mind or take appropriate steps to control the mind – s/he gets the self-realization.
  • The Yogi, who is unable to get self-realization; s/he takes next birth in good families. But a Yogi, who makes an effort to a great extent, but doesn’t get self-realization, s/he gets those parents/families in the next birth – those are Yogi and wise. And after taking birth s/he starts attracting to Yoga, and again attempts to get self-realization.

[Yoga doesn't limited to physical exercise, Yoga or Yog means to merge with God consciousness]
