What is NLP?

Here goes the introduction: NLP or Neuro Liguistic Programming is the technology of human’s psychology transformation and transcendence. It works on highly developed common sense by taking inputs from psychology and behavioral science.

Neuro + Linguistic + Programming

Neuro refers to brain’s neurology, how we take information through our five senses; that are auditory, visual, kinesthetic (touch & feelings), gustatory (taste) and olfactory (smell).

Linguistic refers to language that we understand, like verbal and non-verbal meanings and signs.

Programming refers to attitudes, beliefs, habits and thinking patters etc. Whatever we do, we are programmed in a certain way, and when these certain ways don’t give desired results – that is the right time to update or improve our programming to get desired results.

We create our attitudes, beliefs, habits and patterns, and we can also change them only when – we know exactly what to change, what is incongruous and irrelevant to our actual needs and desires. NLP Techniques helps in transforming mind’s programming to get desired results.

Some NLP Presuppositions

  • The map is not territory

We respond according to our own mental maps, and our maps are built on our filters (beliefs, values, feelings and interpretations etc.), our map may not be as the outside map (world) exists. If we change our internal map, the outside map will also change.

  • If one person can do something, anyone can learn to do that.
  • The meaning of your communication is the response you get.
  • There are no failures only feedbacks.

Example: “I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work” – Thomas Alva Edison

  • There are no un-resourceful people, only un-resourceful states.
  • Respect for the other person’s model of the world.

As you make your mental maps through using your filters, others also make the same way. Your and others metal maps may not be the same due to different values, attitudes and beliefs structure. So, it’s always good to respect other’s mental maps (model of the world).
