NLP means Neuro Linguistic Programming, for more information about NLP click here. The Representational Systems are – Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Gustatory and Olfactory. Representational Systems are also known as Sensory Modalities.

Visual Modality means the movies, pictures or images we see with open or closed eyes. Auditory means whatever we hear through ears. Kinesthetic means whatever we feel through our body, like feeling, temperature, hot & cold, and pressure etc. Gustatory means whatever we feel by taste and Olfactory means whatever we smell.

Sub Modalities: they are the extended version of Modalities, like –

Sub Modalities of Visual Modality may be of: type of color, near or at distance, location, movement, size, contrast, and sharpness etc.

For Auditory Modality the Sub Modalities may be of:  type of sound or noise, quality of sound whether musical or rough, echo, bass, temp, volume level, clarity level and distortion in sound etc.

For Kinesthetic Modality the Sub Modalities may be of: feelings or sensations in body, sweat, temperature variation, heart beats rate, type of pressure or touch, flexibility or stiffness, and change in skin color (in some situations one can notice minor variation in face color) etc.

Sub Modalities of Gustatory Modality may be of: sour, sweet, pungent, and salty etc.

For Olfactory Modality the Sub Modalities may be of: type of aroma, type of fragrance, and level of sharpness etc.
