Rapport and Ecology Check both are very important part of behavioral adjustment and new behavioral development. Rapport is used to set the harmony between two people and ecology check is used for analysis and evaluation before new behavior installation.
Great communicators are the master of Rapport. And, good therapist, psychologist, people at decision making positions like Managers, CEO, MD, etc., are the expert of ecology check.
In this article I am trying to give you the meaning and detail about Rapport and Ecology Check.
We talk to someone in two ways one is verbal communication and second is nonverbal communication, and non-verbal is more powerful because it is less manipulate part and shows the real intentions. A Rapport is said to set when verbal and nonverbal both are synchronized from one person to another – in this situation the great harmony is set and great communication happens.
We can set rapport mainly in three ways: one by verbal — that is first agreeing then by re-framing the talks; second by making copy of other’s nonverbal signals, i.e., matching the posture and position, breath rhythms and expressions (this is also called leading); third by knowing the mental model of another person.
First we talk about decision makers (Managers, CEO, MD, etc.) point of view. A good decision maker always does the ecology check before executing a decision, i.e., if something is done what will happen and what will not happen; if something is not done what will happen and what will not happen. We can call it SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities & Threats) Analysis for present and future of some decision before its execution.
For Psychologist and NLP Practitioner point of view, ecology check is between a therapist and a client before new behavior installation. In this a therapist checks what will be the benefit of new behavior to the client, and what the possible problems may arise? Does a client agree hundred (100) percent consciously and subconsciously to this new behavior? Is there any visible or invisible resistance from the client side to this new behavior? And, what the effect will be on the people associated with the client direct and indirect way? These types of questions a therapist checks before installing new behavior, when everything is favorable without expense or loss of anything then new behavior is installed with the client consent.
