Meaning of Avadhoota, Avatar and Paramhamsa

Spirituality doesn’t come in any definition and meaning but when some of our spiritual gurus put the word like Avadhoota, Avatar and Paramhamsa before their names. A curiosity arises, what does it mean?

For Avadhoota, there are two definitions:

  1. Naked ascetic.
  2. The person who has transformed himself from human to God like qualities.

For Avatar, there is only one definition:

  1. A God who takes birth in human form.

There are lot of debate about who is avatar and who is not. One of spiritual gurus says that "Ma Anandmayi" is only the avatar of the century, because when he touched her feet, he found no flesh; his hands went into the feet. And some people also say that God can never take birth in human body, because if God comes, He will be in the cycle of life and death, and another matter is when the God is so powerful – is there any need Him to lower down His vibrations and to come in human body? Anyway, it doesn’t matter who believe or not, spirituality just lies in experiencing the reality.

For Paramhamsa:

  1. It is the composition of two words Param + Hamsa; Param means super the best, and Hamsa means the Swan or the Soul. It means the best soul is called Paramhamsa.
