Ramana Maharshi : path of knowledge and path of meditation

"Jnana is like subduing a self-willed bull by coaxing it with the help of a sheaf of green grass; while, Dhyana is like controlling it by using force." – Ramana Maharshi

Guru loves Maharshi, and above paragraph of his speech is the translated version from Tamil to English. The path of knowledge (Jnana Yoga) is also called the top path of spiritual awakening, when a person gets enlightened just by developing an understanding. The path of meditation (Dhyana-yoga) is of controlling and refining the mind by some techniques, as there are hundreds of meditation techniques, based on breaths, mantras and certain objects.

But, there is additional advantage in Dhyana Yoga, which in not in Jnana Yoga, that is the purification of physical body – by some kind of posture, pranayam or kriya. Thus, helpful for physical health, the mix of Jnana Yoga and Dhyana Yoga will give great results, because in Jnana Yoga the blind beliefs do not create and a person doesn’t fall into illusions.
