“They still believe a guru should be just in a loin cloth and sitting under a tree, or alternatively, in a cave; having bowl in a hand and asking alms door to door. And, distributing enlightenment street to street.” They have parameters that spiritual gurus must follow, and if breached they turn wild.
They don’t want to give them any other scope other than just being spiritual and living poorly. But spiritual gurus are turning very talented, apart from spirituality, they know everything a modern person knows; they are good public speakers, they speak languages fluently; they dress smartly; they are good authors; they drive cars and bikes; they use computer and live with advanced technology — and that’s the jealousy! a spiritual guru knows so much, why?
There was a man, who used to worship Krishna like anything. And, Krishna used to come and play with him – awesome affair between a devotee and the God. Yet, something was lacking, the Guru wasn’t there to tell what is dream and what is real.
That man got Raman Maharshi as his Guru, and still he used to play with Krishna. Once, Maharshi asked him about the affair, he told that he was playing with Krishna. Maharshi looked into his eyes then asked "Who is the seeker?" That was the teaching "Who is the seeker?" What comes and goes, even the Krishna is just a dream, what doesn’t remain eternal is just a dream. The experiences, the thinking, the emotions, the memory – all are dreams. They all come and go. The seeker is not a dream, the seeker witnesses everything, the witness, is everything. Call it Self, Atman, infinite or God. Later on that man got Self Realized. The sentence "Who is the seeker?" opened the gateway of enlightenment.
Truth is always there, you just need to discriminate what is "untruth." You are already God, you just need to catch and kill the devil that is inside you.
Buddha discriminated between what is transitory and what is eternal and remained fixed with eternal. Mahavir discriminated between what is real and what is unreal, and stood naked with the reality. Krishna asked Arjuna to discriminate between truth and untruth and to kill the relatives. Raman Maharshi’s teachings of "Who am I?" is based on discrimination. Nisargadatta Maharaj used to say "Find out, what you are not?" Jaggi Vasudev in a conversation with Shekhar Kapoor says, people don’t discriminate well. And, when Mahatma Gandhi used to feel weaker and uncomfortable in discrimination and judgments, he used to read Bhagavad Gita.
There are hundreds and thousands of teachings, statements of the Sages that only say judge and discriminate properly. Spirituality can’t evolve without discrimination; only the different paths, different groups and different religions can be made without discrimination, where one group thinks oneself superior and inferior to others. And, each group pull the leg of the public that we are the best – join us!
If you think some spiritual Guru doesn’t exist now, you are in illusion. No spiritual Guru ever takes birth and he never dies. He is always available! Right now, too.
Believe it or not!
The energy field of spiritual Gurus is always available to help the spiritual seekers. No spiritual Guru really "dies." Their energy is always available to show the right path. Even, they are ever ready to give their grace, their knowledge and their guidance; you just need to be ready and ask for them.
Need not to be sad
If you love Raman Maharshi, he is available; if you love Jesus Christ, he is available; if you love Gautama Buddha, he is available. They were beyond body, they are beyond body and they will be beyond body. Though, they were felt in their bodies, but they never existed in that. Physical body is transitory, and they are not transitory, they are ever present.
Ramcharitmanas is one of the greatest Hindu Scriptures, where the "story" about Ram (Lord Ram) has been written. It is said: Tulsidas was the reincarnation of great sage Valmiki; Valmiki wrote Ramayana. If we check both Ramcharitmanas and Ramayana, both convey the same story about Ram. If we compare in terms of quantity, Ramcharitmanas can be said the shorter version of Ramayana. Often, Hindu Gurus asked people to read Ramcharitmanas daily, as it supposed to help in spiritual progress.

The word Surdas means "slave of melody," and the saint Surdas was like that. He composed number of bhajans (poetry), sang and enjoyed throughout his whole life. His physical life-span remained unnoticed. But, his work — despite having physical constraint (eyes) — is awesome. Please, do check his poems in Hindi (link), and in English (link).
Born in Rajasthan (1498 – 1547), Meerabai, the most deadly devotee of Lord Krishna sang numerous bhajans (songs) in the praise and adoration of Lord Krishna. And, it is said, at last, at the peak of her spiritual growth, she turned non-dual; the subject (she) and object (Lord Krishna) became one and this is the greatest message of advaita (which she might not realized in her early devotion to Lord Krishna). You can read most of her bhajans at “this link,” they are in Hindi, Google translation mayn’t work well on them for reading in English, you can visit “this link.” Her poetry (bhajans) is “truly” extraordinary and widely popular among the spiritual Gurus of India.

Guru is wondering … if you know about Rama and don’t know about his Guru. Well, he is Vasistha, and some of his conversation with Rama is recorded in the book Yoga Vasistha. According Hindu mythology, there are seven great Rishis (you can see them as seven stars in the night), and Vasistha is one of them. Unfortunately, his physical birth and death is not available. There are various tales and stories associated with Vasistha (which might have changed over time). But, the book Yoga Vasistha is considered one of the important books of Vedanta. (You can search Google for Yoga Vasistha, most probably you can find pdf on esnips.com or scribd.com.)
